Nottingham NHS staff involved in implementing their End-of-Life Strategy, together with St Vincent’s Hospital Palliative Care Consultant, Dr Eoin Tiernan, and members of the Irish Hospice Foundation and a range of healthcare providers, quality and advocacy groups, met to discuss the development of a framework for end-of-life care that would cover the last years of life in a variety of care locations. The desirability of implementing a formal Integrated Care Pathway, such as the Liverpool Care Pathway, was questioned and the consensus of the meeting was that the most important task was to develop a framework to help build a common understanding of core principles, prompts and practices to promote good end-of-life care.
